I just wanted to say a few words to express my gratitude and thanks to many people over the last 30 days.
Firstly thank you to everyone who gave me a range of ideas. Some great and well some. not so great.
Thank you to each and every one of you who took the time to read my blog. Thank you for your words of encouragement and support throughout my 30 days.
A big thank you to all people who helped me along the way. Those people who joined in on the fun and were willing to try something new with me. Means a lot
A special thanks to Francesca, who helped spark off this idea. I would never have done my 30 day challenge if it wasn't for our conversation.
I have enjoyed every moment of it, I hope you have too.

Day 30: Do as many new things as possible
When my challenge first began I thought of and was given many ideas on what I could achieve in the 30 days. Upon reaching Day 30, I was determined to end my challenge on a high. But nopt wanting to do skydiving or bungee jumping, I thought I would try and cram in as many new things as possible in my last day. Of course taking on and doing as many suggestions as follows. It was s hectic day. But it really goes to show what one person can achieve if they put their mind to it. Being too busy to do something is a poor excuse!
1) Eat ice cream for breakfast
Ice cream is one of my favourites, especially cookies and cream. But eating it for breakfast is not something people commonly do. It was great, I had chocolate and strawberry ice cream. I suppose I can eat ice cream at any time of the day.
2)Send a message in a bottle.
I wrote a letter about my 30 day challenge, including my email address and asked the finder to contact me. I tied a small gold ribbon around the top of the bottle and lay the bottle in the bay. Who knows who may find my message? I'm hoping for a handsome sailor.
3) Do the bay run and say hello to each person that walks past
Now I usually don't give eye contact while walking around, let alone greet each person. I am usually the one who gets bombarded with strangers wanting to chat with me, kiss me, touch my feet or walk with me when I am out and about. By saying hello to each person, I was given quite a few stares, mumbles of hello, and people ignoring me.I had some people look at me in such a strange way, it was as if I had shouted out an offensive word rather than a polite greeting. I giggled to myself each time. It felt good being on this side for once.
4) Eat a kiwi whole, skin and all
This was for Jaime and Rebecca who like to eat kiwi fruits like they are apples. Well I did it, I bit into the kiwi and ate the kiwi with the skin on. Now the actual taste was fine, the skin gives it a zesty flavour. But each time I would bite into it, I was disgusted by the thought of the hairy skin. I think it would be better if the kiwi was sliced in smaller pieces, so the surface area of the skin would not be so large.
5) Read Top 50 poems
The only poetry I remember reading was the ones we were forced learn and study for our HSC. I came across this website http://www.famouspoetsandpoems.%20com%20and/ and thought it would be great to wider my horizons in terms of poetry. Still one of my favourites is Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken. A fantastic and inspiring poem. I also liked the poetry of Maya Angelou.
6) Purchase Pete Sampras from eBay
Who would have thought that a Pete Sampras fan as big as me has never bought any Pete Sampras merchandise from eBay? Well it's true. I had a bit of a search on eBay and bought a disc that has 20 videos of Pete Sampras and a range of photos. Can't wait for it to arrive.
7) Register as a volunteer for Starlight Day in May
I will be working on a Saturday afternoon selling merchandise to help fundraise for the Starlight Foundation. This charity aims at helping terminally ill and seriously injured children. I am so looking forward to helping out and making a difference.
8) Go into a Vinnies store and make a purchase
I had never been into a Vinnes store before, and I was quite surprised to see the huge range of things they had. At first I saw a Tweety bird stuffed toy. It was gorgeous, a nice size, good condition and only $3. I was tempted, But then I was strong, no you can't start buying stuffed toys again. While I was in there, I was actually looking to see if any of my stuffed toys that I donated were in the store. I ended up purchasing three novels.
9) Speak to a telemarketer for longer than 2 minutes
I was so hoping that one these people would call today. And luck was on my side. Like so many people I often tell them I am not interested and hang up before the poor person even has time to say what they are calling for. His name was Gregory and he told me I had been selected and won a holiday vouchers and supermarket vouchers valuing to $2000. I was like great, fantastic, He told me in order to redeem my vouchers I would have to go to a meeting at Surry Hills. What a shame I won't be in Sydney the days the meetings are on.
10) Eat lunch at a restaurant on my own.
Okay I have eaten at a food court on my own, but never a restaurant. I went to a Japanese restaurant in Burwood. I ordered their lunch special. Stir fried Wagyu Beef with all these others things on my plate. The experience was fine. Thank goodness I had my iPhone with me. And in hindsight, lunch time is fine, I think eating alone at a restaurant at dinner time would be much difficult.
11) Drink Aloe Vera juice
Aloe Vera juice was offered on the menu at the Japanese restaurant. I was about to order a Diet Coke when I noticed it. I thought why not, try something new. I can't really explain how it tastes. It has a sweet flavour but then kind of a bitter after taste. And each time I took a sip I couldn't help but see that green prickly plant in my mind.
12) Buy myself a bunch of flowers
Never done it. I love flowers but I have never gone and bought some flowers for the house just because. I picked out some pretty pink carnations. They had no yellow or purple flowers that I liked.
13) Eat a quince
Disgusting, I took a bite and threw it out. Perhaps it wasn't ripe enough yet. I'm not sure, but I wasn't a fan
14) Go to Adriano Zumbo's patisserie and got macarons!
I finally tasted Adriano Zumbo's macarons. They are devine. The best one I have tasted so far is mint with chestnut. I found out that they have opened a small cafe in Rozelle. I think this may be where the kitchen is, but they have now put a little cafe at the front. So good, I think I will be a regular customer. Shame Adriano wasn't anywhere to be seen.
15) Play OzLotto online
I have never played the Lotto online before, let alone OzLotto. There was 20 million up on offer. Guess how much I won? Zilch. Back to work it is.
16) Write my teaching philosophy
Well I had to do this task for an upcoming work conference, So I thought I might as well include it as something new, since I have never sat down and put on a piece of paper what I truly believe about teaching. It was actually a great way to reflect on my teaching journey so far and what I want to further achieve as an educator.
17) and 18) Write a letter to the Today Show and to Sunrise
Both these morning programs are always asking for new stories. I thought they may be interested in hearing about my 30 Day Challenge. So I wrote to them, introducing myself and explaining what I had been up to the last 30 days. I also gave them the address of my blog. I may make it on television again.
19) Learn to play Ludo
I love boardgames and I am not sure why I have never learnt to play this one before. I thought it was quite complex but it's not. Really fun and of course I'm addicted. I've already downloaded the app on my iPhone.
20) Write a letter to Oprah
When I first started my challenge I wanted to write a fan letter to someone famous. And then I thought Oprah. I was sure Oprah would love to hear about my 30 day challenge and how it has inspired me and others to go out there, change your life, make things better, make a difference and enjoy everything you do. I sent an email outlining what I had done, gave my blog address and now my fingers are crossed. How cool would it be, if I was flown to America? Wishful thinking, but it could happen!
21) Apply for a writing job online
I can upon a writing job online where you can review different places, events, movies, cafes etc in Sydney. Depending on how many people read your review you get paid.. But firstly you have to apply to the company by writing a review, which I did. Of course I chose to write about Adriano Zumbo's cafe. I thought it was a perfect job for me. Write and be paid for hings I enjoy doing in my spare time.
I was aiming to achieve completing 30 new things in one day, but by the time I did all this, I was simply exhausted.
I had reached Number 21 and thought I have done.
21 things in one day is perfect.
And the perfect number to end on.
I will turn 30 on April 21st.

Day 29: High Tea at QVB
I lived the life of the rich today. Going to Queen Victoria Building and having high tea with the ladies is a wonderful experience. Everything so fancy, delicate and posh.
I went with some work friends for a social gathering during our school holidays. Many of the ladies had been before, while some of us were new to the experience.
I was quite surprised with the array of tea selection. So many to choose from. I knew there was earl gray and English breakfast. And that's about all. I ended up choosing a vanilla tea which was quite nice.
We decided on having the sparkling afternoon tea. This includes a selection of cakes, biscuits, pastries, scones, sandwiches, tea and most importantly a glass of champagne.
The cakes came out on a tier and looked very cute and delicate. The sandwiches had the crust cut off. Not fair I like the crust. I wasn't a fan of the sandwiches. Too many things mixed with mayonnaise. or cheese and stuff like that. I did have the tuna sandwich which was alright.
My favourite would have definitely been the scones. They were huge! Moist and delicious.
It was a great experience, lovely to sit, chat and indulge in sweet delights.

Day 28: Get a tattoo and a caricature.
Get a tattoo? Now that is drastic! Such a massive thing to do as part of this 30 day challenge. And it will now be there for the rest of my life. Each time I look down and see my purple butterfly fluttering on my upper arm, I will think it was the Day 28 challenge. A permanent mark of my adventures in the last few days of being in the 20's decade. But would I really do such a thing? Would I get a permanent stamp on my body?
Of course not!
Only a fake one. But I have never even had a fake one before, so it still qualifies.
I went to the Royal Easter Show at Olympic Park with my sister, niece and nephew and my godmother and her children. I had not been to this annual event for over 10 years. And in fact I had never been with my niece and nephew before either.
Upon walking through the gates, I saw a sign for air spray tattoos. I thought perfect. No pain and no stain. I paid a minimal fee for a tattoo that looks like one of those tattoos you wet, stick to your skin and then peel off. Very fake looking, but at least it will only be around for a week.
The second part to today was getting a caricature done of myself. I had always wanted to do one. I think it is so fascinating that these artists are able to capture the qualities that identify you, but at the same time portray these qualities and characteristics in a comical, funny way.
I asked my artist to be nice while he was drawing me, and in about 5 minutes he was done! My portrait is definitely cheeky and a bit raunchy but very amusing and clever too!

Day 27: Bake scones
My first true experience of scones was while I was travelling in England. Delicious scones with cream and jam. Baking scones seemed so difficult.
I thought you had to use a scone cutter. And me making dough, not likely.
I found a simple choc chip scone recipe and the mixing was underway. I made the dough in no time at all. Of course I added more choc chips then what the recipe suggested. I put the scones in the oven and they were done in about 12 minutes. As easy as that.
They turned out well. Looked great and tasted delicious. I was impressed.
I am already thinking about all the variations I could possibly make.
White chocolate, blueberries, strawberries, macadamia nuts, sultana, coconut.......

Day 26: Mechanics 101
Cars and me don't really get on. (A yellow Monaro being the only exception). When someone tells me they bought a new car. I ask what colour? That's all I'm really interested in. I don't really know much else. Nothing about engines, or transmissions or that stuff.
I will be honest and say that I had to get a lesson from some friends on how to put petrol in the car. And the first time I did it by myself I was so nervous and then excited that I had actually achieved this monumental task.
My father this morning, asked me to lift the hood up.
Ummm how do I do that?
So I thought this was my opportunity to learn a little bit about what is really under the bonnet.
Firstly, my dad showed me the little button under my steering wheel that I press and then the lever to help lift the hood up. And of course where the stand is hold the hood up.
He showed me some of the basic parts. To give myself some credit I knew where the engine was and also the car battery, but that is about it.
I learnt about the stick thing you pull out that indicates your oil level.
I know now where to put water for the windscreen wipers.
I can now recognise the part which is for coolant.
I can tell you where to put power steering fluid.
I even know that under each screw of the car battery, you need to make sure there is enough water.
All that in about 10 minutes.
I am eager to learn a little more. I think it would be awesome if I knew how to change a tyre and some other general car maintenance. I saw a workshop online aimed at women to help them learn more about car and parts. I would definitely be interested in participating in that in the future.
I am now ready to enrol in Mechanics 102.

Day 25: Get a pedicure.
Once upon a time, about 12 years ago, I was waiting at the bus stop in the city. It was around Christmas time and I had done some Christmas shopping. Along came Rudy. Rudy was a so called 'friend' of my long time friend Stacey. They knew each other from a church youth group. Rudy came over to me and said hello. I was polite and said hello back, but avoided eye contact. I didn't really want to get into conversation with him. Rudy commented me on my shoes and said how he liked them. Before I knew it, Rudy reached down and squeezed my foot! That's right I had a stranger bend down and squeeze my foot at a bus stop. Now Rudy obviously had some kind of foot fetish.
Me on the other hand, I don't like feet. And people touching my feet, I dislike it even more. This explains why I have never had a pedicure before.
In Thailand I paid 100 baht, the equivalent of about 4 Australian dollars to have a sweet lady paint my toenails on the beachside of Patong. I even had the courage to put my feet in the water with all those skin eating fish. But no pedicure.
I went to a local nail shop to get the job done. I thought I deserved to sit down, relax and spoil myself after all this excitement the past 3 weeks. I loved the relaxing, massaging chair. It felt great. While the lady was scraping away at my dead skin, she kept talking in her own language to the other people who worked there. I am sure she was saying how ugly my feet were, or how much dead skin I had on them. At certain times through the scrubbing, I tried hard not to laugh, some parts of the process were quite ticklish.
She painted my nails in a strong red colour and my feet looked pretty decent for once. The classic moment, I was aiming for two embarrassing moments in two days, were the shoes. Now because I am a pedicure virgin, it did not cross my mind about wearing appropriate shoes. Of course wearing closed shoes would probably smudge the mail polish. But of course I did not think of that.
The people at the nail shop gave me these bright green disposable thongs to wear. Such a great look! I walked home wearing my new classic lime green shoes holding my other shoes in my hands. Luckily I did not bump into anyone I knew and that I live just around the corner.
On the positive side , my feet look glam. My only dilemma now is do I wear my new canary yellow shoes or my bright green lime shoes for my birthday? The choices I have to make....

Day 24: Meet Adriano Zumbo
The Cancer's Council's huge fundraising event, "Australia Largest Morning Tea" was launched today at Martin Place in the city. Special guests were famous patissier Adriano Zumbo and last year's Masterchef runner up, Callum.
Before Masterchef appeared on our TV screens, I had never heard of Adriano Zumbo. But since watching him create his unique, difficult and delicious looking desserts, I was an instant fan.
When creating and gathering ideas for my 30 day challenge list, experiencing one of Adriano Zumbo's creations was a must. I particulary wanted to eat one of his macaroons. He has a HUGE selection to choose ranging from kalamata olive to pig's blood macaroons. I have followed a little bit of Adriano's show and was fascinated.
Last year's Masterchef was on my television screen each night. I watched every single episode and ensured to tape the show if I was out that night. I loved it. I even had withdrawal symptoms when the show ended. Australia's Largest Morning Tea launch was also blessed with the appearance of young and talented Masterchef runner up Callum.
I came across this event at the last minute, while browsing on Masterchef's Facebook page and I thought what a great opportunity it would be to go see these two stars.
I got into Martin Place at about 9.10am and was surprised to see only a small crowd. Adriano was decorating some sweets and Callum was mingling with some of the fans.
Eventually Adriano came done with the fans and was kind enough to take photos and to do some meeting and greeting. I loved the cream mark on his face, a true mark of a good cook.
Adriano was very patient and kind with everyone. I finally got a turn to take a photo with him and in true Antonella style I nearly stacked it down the stairs while next to him. I didn't realise that there was a step behind me, so I grabbed on to Adriano. He helped me get my balance and said "Shit are you okay" So embarrassing! He was very sweet about it all and we tried again to get our photo taken. .
I was lucky enough to even try one of his sweet creations. It wasn't a macaroon but a small piece of cake decorated with fresh cream and fruit. It was delicious.
I am hoping to visit Adriano one day at his Balmain shop to savour his macaroons. I am positive that he will remember me.

Day 23: Buy a pet guinea pig
I was out shopping with my friend Rebecca today and we walked past this cute little guinea pig. I thought how adorable and instantly I wanted it.
I have never bought my own pet before. Growing up we didn't have any pets. We once had a little peachface bird that flew into our backyard and didn't leave. So we made a little cage for it and adopted it as our pet. A few days later it passed away. Well that is what my mum and dad said. I think they just left the cage door open on purpose.
Most recently, we had a little black rabbit come to our front garden. Mr Blacky as we named him. My father asked around if the baby rabbit belonged to anyone, but none of the neighbours owned it. We now have Mr Blacky living in our backyard in a pen like cage. He gets to eat all of my father's homegrown vegetables and even some of my mother's cooking.
But I have never bought my own pet, and I suppose I am not really a pet person. I love wild animals and like to learn about them, like giraffes, elephants and penguins, but I am not a fan of domestic animals. I am not the type of person who walks pass a pet shop and wants to go in and have a look. I usually hold my breath to avoid that pet shop smell.
But today, this little guinea pig stole my heart. I decided to call her Miss Mulberry. Mulberry also being a colour and matching the name for our pet rabbit, Mr Blacky.
I was really excited to come home and show my parents the new addition to the family. I thought it would be no problem for Miss Mulberry to share her home with Mr Blacky. However, my father was not impressed and he said there was no way Miss Mulberry could live safely together with Mr Blacky in the same cage. So I decided to keep Miss Mulberry in my bedroom, safe and sound.
My mother wasn't impressed with that idea. I couldn't understand why. I said Miss Mulberry is very clean, she doesn't make much noise and she won't require too much attention. She doesn't eat either.
Anyway I am happy to have finally purchased my own sweet, adorable guinea pig pet.
The best pet anyone could ever own.

Day 22: Donate blood
I saved three people's lives today by donating blood. Rather than feel proud and excited about it. I actually feel ashamed. Why have I waited so long to donate blood to help save the lives of others?
There wan an extensive questionnaire that needed to be completed. While filling in my responses, I thought, I am a healthy person, why haven't I come here before to give my blood to people who need it?
The process was very smooth. Complete a questionnaire, have an interview with a nurse, have your finger pricked and then the needle was in. It was fascinating for me to see my blood flow out of me, into a tube and then into a bag. I gave 500ml, half a litre of blood and felt absolutely fine. Apparently I have fantastic veins, as the blood flowed out in 5 minutes. The nurse said it usually takes up to 10 minutes. She was probably just making me feel better.
They put a big bandage over the needle prick and escorted me to the cafeteria for a refreshment.
I learnt today that you can also give just a plasma donation or a platelet donation, but the nurse recommended that I give whole blood donations the first few times.
I will be going again to donate blood as soon as I can. They estimate in about 12 weeks time. I have even encouraged my mum to donate blood and she will be coming with me next time.
Many of my own family members and friends have relied on the generosity of previous blood donors in the past. I am thankful to each of them. I now hope that my donation can help the family members or friends of somebody else out there.

Day 21: Do the Sydney Tower Skywalk
Many people from around the world flock to Sydney and are delighted to see the Harbour Bridge, the iconic Opera House and the marvellous Sydney Tower. Being a Sydney resident my entire life, I am always eager to travel and experience new places, climb the Eiffel Tower in Paris, walk around the Colosseum, ride the Gondola in Venice. But doing things in my own backyard? Like many, I always think I will have time to do it one day.
The "one day" was today. I have been up to the observatory deck of Sydney Tower, previously known and still commonly referred to as Centrepoint Tower, several times before. But walking around the outside edge of the Sydney Tower was something new.
The tower is the tallest in Sydney and overlooks our beautiful city, standing at 268 metres. I had heard several stories about how frightening the Skywalk would be, walking across clear panels of glass and seeing the city down below us. Hanging off an observation deck, where it would shake and shiver. I felt a little nervous about it, but I have always loved heights and knew that I would enjoy it.
Toni and I got geared up, in a nice bright blue Skywalk jumpsuit. Everyone also had to do an alcohol breath test, another new thing for me. There were four other people in our group and we were all locals. All of us from Sydney. We were given a harness and hooked on and stepped out onto the platform.
No matter how many times you get up to the top of Sydney Tower, the view of our city is just breathtaking. The view from the outside was stunning. It was great to be able to see the views of our city without the obstructing glass .
I was a little anxious putting my foot out on to the glass panels, but felt fine after taking that first step. I wasn't afraid at all, but rather captivated by our picturesque city. We took several photos out there, including ones where we had to jump up and down. Of course the glass platforms shook a little
The tour lasted for about one hour. It was really great. I recommend it to everyone. Tourists, locals, people of all ages and fitness levels.
Now if I can do this, surely I am able to do the Sydney Harbour Climb. That will have to be next time I be a tourist in Sydney.

Day 20: Drive a yellow Monaro
The first time I went to the Motor Show, I had one picture taken.
Me standing next to a yellow car.
The next time I went to the Motor Show, I listened to my friends speaking of the new Ferrari or Porsche they wanted and wished to own.I simply wanted the yellow car.
Some people see a yellow car and call out 'Spotto". I see a yellow car and think how nice. I want one. I even got in trouble a couple of times from my driving instructor when I was learning to drive because I would purposely follow the yellow car to have a better look at it.
I have loved yellow cars for as long as I can remember. I just love the way these bright yellow canary cars stand out amongst the mundane traffic of greys, whites and blacks. I cannot understand why someone would want to purchase a grey car, when they can choose yellow! Yellow cars are stunning, definitely safer and simply beautiful.
One big motivator for me to get my licence was the possibility of owning a yellow car. I got my licence in my mid twenties and never had a real desire to drive. But the thought of owning and driving a yellow car pushed me a little more.
While speaking with a few friends, Yasmin came up with the idea to go to a car yard to pretend to purchase a car, We all shouted yellow Monaro! My obsession of yellow Monaros has been around for quite a few years now. They are probably the only type of car I recognise. Yasmin and I did a bit of research on where we could go "buy" a yellow Monaro.
Yasmin, who has a fantastic knowledge of cars, called around and made an appointment to see the yellow Monaro at a dealership. She told me several times that she asked the salesman to ensure he had a yellow Monaro. So on Saturday morning at around 11am Yasmin picked Jaime, Rebecca and I up and we were off to Castle Hill to check out the car.
I was pretty nervous to ensure that we would get our story straight with the salesman, was hoping that he would let us take it for a spin and then scared about me actually driving it!
We got there, had a bit of a look, the car dealer photocopied our licenses, he gave us the keys and we were off. As easy as that. I was screaming "We are in a yellow Monaro". Yasmin firstly took the car around the block and then it was my turn.
I got into the driver's seat and it was as if I had never driven a car before. I was so nervous! I was shouting again "I'm driving a yellow Monaro", while the girls were reminding me to calm down and concentrate. I must have driven it for about 50 metres but that was enough. I pulled over and we took several photos.
Now for all you who are reading this thinking, get over it is just a car. I totally agree with you, it is just a car, But being able to do something that you have always really wanted to do is just awesome. I simply cannot get the smile off my face. And being able to experience it with some of my closest friends was even better.
We took the car back, told him we would think about it and our adventure was over.
Actually buying a yellow Monaro? Well I don't think I'd actually ever buy a yellow Monaro. But the desire to want a yellow car? It was made stronger today.

Day 19: Watch the Sound of Music
Many people are shocked when they hear that I have not watched the Sound of Music before. Often when people talk about Sound of Music or begin to sing the songs from its movie, I usually just nod and smile. Telling people that I have not seen it comes as a huge surprise to many. Just to let these die heart fans know, there are many, many people out there that have not seen it.
Watching the movie really surprised me. There were so many songs in the movie, that I was already familiar with and had heard previously. I am also fortunate enough to say that I have been to Salzburg before. Seeing places from the movie I had seen in real life was a highlight. And being reminded of the beauty of Austria was also fabulous.
I understand why this movie is such a favourite with so many people. Catchy tunes, romance and adventure are all rolled into one.
I am proud to say that I have now seen the Sound of Music and now I just have to learn the words to all those songs.

Day 18: Singing Justin Beiber karaoke vs watching The Human Experience
Looking at the title of my Day 18, I really do not know where to begin.
A group of people from work were off to the cinemas tonight to watch the movie,"The Human Experience". I had heard reviews about this film, people claiming that watching the film would change your life, that the viewing would inspire you in your own life, that it would help you understand the true meaning of life.
I was attending the movie, having great expectations and very high hopes.
There was some talk earlier today on what I was going to do today as my new thing. Many suggestions were supplied, some including:
- ask a random stranger personal questions
- ask a question after the movie screening in front of a huge audience
- eat something exotic and weird
- flirt with a priest (totally inappropriate I know, not saying who came up with this idea)
but nothing above seemed to interest me. (Sorry Christine)
After a normal day at work, I went shopping for a little while with my friend Christine and we had some dinner. Didn't talk to any strangers and ask them personal questions, didn't eat anything weird and there was no way I was going to flirt with a priest.
As we were walking into the cinemas, there was a karaoke machine with Justine Beiber's infamous song "Baby, Baby, Baby". Now I have done karaoke several times before, but only in private functions with people I know and only to songs that I actually like. Singing Justin Beiber and pretending to enjoy myself was a challenge itself. And it was in front of a huge crowd.
I was actually quite eager to sing the song. It didn't really faze me. I was most glad that I had actually done my thing for the day. And that I could now just enjoy the film.
What I didn't know at that stage was that the movie "The Human Experience" would have more in store for me.
The movie is about a group of young men who go on a journey to discover the meaning of life. They undertake various experiences in difficult situations and realise the beauty in every person. They learn of the hope and faith found in humans and the power of making a difference.
Simply put the movie was inspirational.
It was a self discovery journey for these young men and they painted a picture of being able to have hope even in the most difficult of situations. They learnt about their own lives, all having difficult upbringings, and they showed the power of human kindness and the importance of love and community,
Two of the actors from the movie. Michael Campo and Jeffrey Azize, appeared after the film screening answering questions from the audience. This really allowed this marvellous film seem so real. They were both so open and honest with their own personal experiences. It was a privilege to hear these talented and inspirational actors/producers speak.
We were also fortunate enough to get a photo with each of them and congratulate them on such a moving film.
I walked out the cinema thinking Justin Beiber? Why would I think that singing karaoke to a Justin Beiber song would need to be something on my list of 30 things to do? Why aren't I doing something more inspiring? Something that can make a difference to the lives of others. Why am I wasting opportunities in my life to do something simple and easy, rather than taking risks and getting out of my comfort zone?
And I realised, today's purpose was to watch the film and to make the commitment of making a change. Even just a small one.
I have already looked into volunteering in a soup kitchen, I am donating blood soon and am interested in doing some volunteering with disabled or underprivileged children.
I would recommend that everyone watch the Human Experience. It makes you value all the wonderful things in our lives. It made me see how precious and special my life is. How lucky I am to have all the special people in my life. That I have a roof over my head, that I have a great job, that I have the opportunity to help others.
So my Day 18 experience? It was definitely learning about my possible future Human Experiences. .

Day 17: Learn to play Solitaire
I have always hated the game Solitaire. I thought it was the most boring game to play and I would always call it the "Nigel game", especially when many people I knew would spend hours in front of the computer screen addicted to the game. With all honesty, the reason why I probably hated it so much was because I never knew how to play, nor taught myself or bothered to read the rules.
So I finally thought it was time to see what the fuss was about and to see if the power of this game would entice like so many other people around the world.
I went onto a website which explained the rules of Solitaire. It didn't seem too complicated and I caught on reasonably well and quite quickly. I went to another website and started to play the game. I played a few times, but could not actually win. It was harder than I thought and more complicated than what it seems.
I realised that the game wasn't just about clicking cards here and there but there is some logic behind the card playing. And most of all I wanted to win a game.
Now I am not addicted but as soon as I finish writing this blog entry I have going to go back and replay my game to see if I can win. I might even see if there is an app for my Iphone.
School holidays are coming up soon, I am sure I can master this game in now time at all.

Day 15: Upload a video of myself on You Tube
After about 30 takes I finally got a video posted on You Tube. The video wasn't even 30 seconds long. I quickly outlined my 30 day challenge and gave out the blog address to anyone who was interested.
I am positive that I will not get many clicks. However I have learnt an important tool in today's technological land about uiploading videos on You Tube. I am starting to think of all the wonderful and wicked things I can take videos of and upload.
No one is safe anymore

Day 14: Have a crowd sign for a footy match
I have been following the NRL footy for just over a year now. It begun last year when I thought it was time to pick up a new hobby and follow a sport. I chose the West Tigers. Firstly because of the area I live and secondly because many of my friends followed this team. I went to a few matches last year and really got behind the team. We would shout and cheer for our team, but never had a flag or a sign to show our love to the boys. They had a fantastic season and I am very proud to call myself a Tigers supporter.
I had some of my students from school help me create the sign. My students being huge fans eagerly offered one wet weather lunch time to make the sign. We stuck some cardboard together, glued on some letters and we had a snazzy sign ready for the game. I simply put "Go Tigers" on my sign. I was tempted to put "Marry me Benji" or "I love you Robbie" but I didn't want to draw too much attention to myself.
Jaime, Rebecca and I went to the Roosters vs Tigers match at the Sydney Football Stadium. The last time these two teams played, was an epic and controversial match that ended sadly for the Tigers. The atomsphere was tense, but excited at the same time. The Tigers had many of their players off due to injuries, which only made it harder for them to seek revenge. The sun was shining and approximately 20, 000 fans were in the stadium. It was going to be a great match.
We sat behind the goal post and thought this would be the perfect position to show off my crowd sign and maybe get on television. Unfortunately to our knowledge we didn't get on. Although we got many people looking at us and laughing at us. I don't believe it was due to my sign, but rather the way I scream and shout to show my support for the Tigers.
The most memorable moment of the match was when the Tigers scored, their only try that day. The Tigers players were walking back, facing us directly, only about 10 metres away. We had our sign up, screaming and shouting, and I even decided to wave at one of the players. I am sure he saw us, but he was in his focused state and did not wave back.
Honestly, the Tigers did not play well today. They seemed to have forgotten some of the basic of the game. They had so many opportunities, but lost control each time they were able to score. They could not make it over the line. We were disappointed that the Tiger boys could not make us proud today.
As for the sign, well it is rolled up again, awaiting its next visit to a football match. Hopefully next time we can use the sign more often and make our way on television.

Day 13: Bake a pavlova
A true Australian dessert named after a famous Russian ballerina, the pavolva has always been a favourite of mine. The crunchy outside and the soft inside topped with whipped cream and fresh fruit has always gone down well.
But baking and making my own pavlova? I was always too scared. I didn't want to spoil one of my favourite desserts. I have heard too many stories of people not seperating egg whites from the egg yolk carefully enough, the meringue breaking, the meringue burning and even the meringue sinking completely.
Watching contestants on Masterchef cooking pavlova as one of their cooking challenges frightened me more. Some of them couldn't manage, how would I?
My mum said that my brother and sister and their families were coming over for dinner on Saturday evening and I thought I would try and cook a pavlova. I didn't want a whole pavlova sitting around with only my mum and I eating it. My father had never been a fan. So I built up my courage, searched through a few recipe books, bought some missing ingredients and my apron was on.
The preparation process was quite easy. I had made meringue before. Quite similar to when I make my coconut macroons. I put it in the oven and I was feeling confident. When the suggested cooking time was over, I wasnt quite sure how to tell if it was cooked or not. I left it in for a few more minutes. It all went well until I tried to move the cooled meringue onto another plate. I just couldn't do it. The crunchy outside was cracking apart, so I didn't touch it any further.
I ended up decorating my meringue with whipped cream, kiwi fruit, strawberries and passionfruit pulp while it was still on the baking tray.
Presentation (minus the tray) it looked good. Taste, it was quite nice.
All in all, a success! Many more pavlovas coming from my kitchen in the future.

Day 12: Eat Kebeh.
There must come a time in this 30 day challenge that I just find something around me to tick the box. Today was this day.
Having such a busy week and so many highlights over the last two weeks, it just could not continue today. I feel that the expectation each day is getting bigger and bigger. But today I had to do something quite low key.
I was invited by my dear twin friends Rebecca and Jaime to their sister's Nicole's shopping party. Nicole has recently opened a new business selling children's clothing, accessories and also ladies' handbags and jewellery. Nicole has been having a few parties lately to promote her business and her quality items.
At around 7pm I went down to their house to support the launching business and to also hang around and have a catch up with the girls. There were lots of cute designs for children and lovely pieces of jewellery on offer. I ended up purchasing a pair of earrings. I always cant resist jewellery.
But I still had not done something new this day. I was talking to my friends about what can I do, I only have a few hours left.
They suggested eating a kiwi whole. This has always been a joke between us, because the twins like to eat kiwis with the skin still on it. But there were no kiwis in the house. The twin's mum had cooked kebeh, a Lebanese meat dish. The girls suggested I try the kebeh. I thought I might as well.
I suppose trying a dish that I have never had before may not seem such a big deal, but in hindsight, it is a challenge for me.
The fussy eater who goes to a restaurant and asks for dishes without cheese, or mustard, no mayonaiise, no sauce, dressing on the side, no butter or well cooked finally gave her tastebuds something new.
